Liar Liar – Fletcher Reede is a hard working lawyer who is constantly disappointing his wonderful young son. Finally, before blowing out the candles at his birthday, Max makes his wish. He wants his father to not be able to lie for one full day. The results are definitely riotous.

Faces – Extremely personal drama in regards to numerous infidelities is one of the few Cassel films to become a big hit. Here’s a strong movie with breathtaking action, particularly by Carlin and Cassel. Cast includes John Marley, Gena Rowlands, Lynn Carlin, Seymour Cassel, Fred Draper, and Val Avery. Inferno – American returns to N.Y. from school in Rome to investigate the gruesome death of his sibling, and finds “sinister moms” wreaking paranormal mayhem on both sides of Atlantic. Surreal, hypnotic shocker by Italian terror genius Argento does not make much sense, but it has a lot of style. Cast includes Leigh McCloskey, Irene Marvel, Sacha Pitoeff, Daria Nicolodi, Eleonora Giorgi, Veronica Lazar, and Alida Valli. (107 minutes,’84)

Vertical Limit – Peter Garett, an ex mountain climber who gave the sport up after his father died disastrously while climbing, finds himself in a difficult state of affairs. His sister and climbing partner have been trapped in a deep crevasse while attempting to climb the famous K2 peak. He is one of the only people capable of even attempting a near impossible rescue. Time is of the essence, as the trapped climbers will soon freeze to death.

Rent-a-Kid – While the person in charge of an orphanage takes a holiday, father Nielsen takes over with a strategy to produce cash by renting out kids. While unsurprising, this silly premise is astoundingly successful. In the end 3 children are rented by a fashionable ’90s couple considering adopting. A respectable family motion picture. Cast includes Leslie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd, Matt McCoy, Sherry Miller, and Amos Crawley. (89 minutes,’95)
