Does the Job and Durable

This Umbrella-style clothesline arrived quickly and in good condition. It was an easy fifteen minute job to dig a hole and mix a bag of Quick-rete (right in the hole) to set the plastic sleeve. Once the sleeve was set aplumb and the concrete dried overnight, the clothesline was slide into place the next morning. The line was ready for use right away. After quite a few uses, here are the pros and cons, as I see them.
Pros:
- Price
- Ease of installation
- Ease of use (basically you can stand in one place and hang a couple of loads
- Easy to remove in the winter
Cons:
- Lines stretch and have to be tightened two or three times until fully stretched. This is not a hard task, but does take several minutes to untie, pull, and retie the sections of line
- Not a big deal, but the plastic sleeve comes with a plastic cap attached by a flimsy piece of plastic connector. The cap came off right away and is missing in action. Not a big deal, but poor design on a non-essential piece.
Overall, this is a good buy. Functional, and well-constructed. |
Good value!

| I have been using the clothesline between 2-3 times a week for almost 2 months. (The previous owner had a sleeve installed for his clothesline, so I can't comment on the ease of installation in the ground.) The clothesline works fine, definitely a good value for the price. I put out one load of laundry at a time so that I can space things out in my humid climate. The clothesline is quite roomy and has handled the weight of wet clothing without issue. The collapsible arms make it easy to put away if a windy storm is coming. The cording/tubing is a bit slack, but I haven't needed to tighten anything yet. I'd recommend this item and look forward to many years of hanging out my family's laundry! |
Works great, could be taller

This works great for drying a *lot* of clothes in a small footprint. And it spins!. Too bad it doesn't come with an extra extension, because once you bury the plastic holder that it comes with, it's a little low to the ground for my tastes (I'm 5'11"...my 5'4" wife is fine with it).
All in all a great way to avoid using the dryer on a hot day.

Umbrella style clothes line

This is truely a "blast from the past". My mother had one of these clotheslines when I was a little girl.
I liked an online review suggesting using your patio table to hold this clothesline. If your table is sturdy (heavy) enough and there is not a strong wind-this works great. I only have laundry for myself, but was able to hang three small loads on this clotesline all at the same time, with room to spare. Worked great for me-very happy with it. Of course, it can be sunk into the ground but I have not tried this-the in ground holder would be flush with the ground for mowing and you could store the clothesline in the house or garage to keep it clean. In addition, it's a green alternative! |
So long dryer...

| If you are 5'2" tall like I am forget using your patio umbrella stand! I couldn't reach most of the lines! Ended up putting the stand on the ground and standing on the last step of my deck in order to reach. First thing that happened was the clothes line blew over while I was hanging clothes. A few cinder blocks to hold the stand worked. If you are short like I am and want to use an umbrella stand you could always use a hack saw and cut the pole a little shorter. We decided to make the clothes line more permanent and since we live in upstate NY we were a little concerned about using the "plastic sleeve" in the ground fearing it might not hold up so followed the manufacturers instructions reference the hole and cement but used a piece of old fence pipe slightly longer than the "sleeve" that came with the clothes line and just slightly larger in diameter than the actual clothes line pole. We also dug the hole a little deeper than suggested. It took one bag of rocks and one bag of quick setting cement. We kept the pipe right at ground level. A fence post cap works great to keep grass and other stuff out of the inground pole and still allows for mowing. After a couple of days of letting the cement dry we are in business! I find that when raising the clothes line I have to be careful since there is not much space at the bottom of the actual clothes line pole to hold onto when raising it. I will have to tighten the lines soon as mentioned in the instructions. Looking back I wish I had gotten a larger clothes line since there is just barely enough space to hang a set of double and queen size sheets but it will easily hold 2-3 loads of regular wash. Over all a good product at a good price and I do recommend this to others. |
